Valerie ImmoreOwner/Director E-RYT500, IAYT, TIYT
Valerie Immore, E-RYT 500, IAYT, TIYT, is the owner of Sundance Yoga Studios in Pearland and Friendswood, Tx. She is a Certified registered Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) She has been with Sundance and the Anusara community since 2001. Valerie's journey has always been one of health and fitness and she has a strong background in many facets of the health industry beginning as early as 1985. As soon as she found Yoga, it became her heart's ambition to teach it and enhance the lives of others with this practice as much as yoga has blessed her own life. Her passion in yoga is yoga therapy and partner yoga. She has over 1500 hours of yoga and therapy training. Her training has come from several different styles of vinyasa yoga but primarily from Anusara Yoga. Her unique style is a blend of the principles of alignment from Anusara and the dance of body and breath in vinyasa, complimented by teaching from a place of intuition and deep understanding of the biomechanics of the body. Valerie is a teacher trainer at the 200 hr and 500 hr level and has taught in Principle Based Partner Yoga teacher certification courses.
John BethscheiderInstructor E-RYT 500
John came to Sundance Yoga in 2005. Having competed in competitive tennis, racquetball, running, cycling, and back-packing, his body was in need of healing. Yoga provided the needed recovery and healing from years of overuse injuries. As an avid cyclist he discovered that yoga improved his balance, breathing and strength on the bicycle. Taking his yoga practice to the next level, with Valerie’s encouragement, he completed the teachers training at Sundance. In the fall of 2008 he began teaching yoga to employees at Alvin Community College. The program became an immediate success and is offered to beginning and intermediate students. John’s philosophy of yoga is to teach not only the universal principles of alignment, but to instill in each student an appreciation of the culture and history of yoga and to practice yoga not only on the mat but in their daily lives. He encourages his students to recognize that their physical yoga practice, when engaging the breath, can lead to self-awareness and change. A sense of humor and a desire to create a peaceful atmosphere guide his instructional method. He retired as Provost and Dean of Instruction at Alvin Community College in 2019.
Anne BendixenInstructor E-RYT, RYT500, RCYT, YACPE
Anne was introduced to Yoga at Sundance Yoga Studio in 2005, after working in the Fitness Industry as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor for years. After experiencing not only the physical, but also the emotional and spiritual effects of Yoga, her whole life changed.
Anne's lighthearted teaching style has it's roots in the Anusara-inspired teacher training from Sundance where Valerie Immore was her first influential teacher. Christina Sell and Gioconda Parker are her teachers as well.
Anne is a student first and foremost. She continues her diverse yoga education by attending different workshops and teacher trainings every year. Prenatal, Veteran, Kids and Yin Yoga are among her certifications. She is a Kids Yoga Teacher Trainer for Kidding Around Yoga.
Her goal is to offer students an opportunity to practice yoga in a loving, empowering and safe environment.
CJ RubenakInstructor E-RYT 500, TIYT
CJ was introduced to Yoga through Public Television in the early 1990’s. She developed a home practice and attended the occasional yoga class at her local gym. Initially, she enjoyed the physical benefits of yoga and saw it as a way to stay physically fit. It didn’t take her long to understand the powerful mind-body connection and how it impacted her health and well-being. CJ began teaching in 2011 after completing a 200 Hr. teacher training at Sundance. She went on to complete 500 Hr. teacher training in 2015. Although teaching yoga has been a natural progression out of her personal practice, CJ sees herself as a student first and foremost. Her intention as a teacher is to hold space for others to experience self- awareness and personal growth. CJ holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and spent many years working in this capacity. She views teaching yoga as yet another way to be in service to others. CJ teaches Gentle Yoga, Yin, Yoga Nidra and Mixed Level classes, and recently became a Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher (TIYT). She is inspired by her teachers Valerie Immore, Christy Burnette, Ali Valdez, Francis Rhodes and her very first teacher, Lilias Folan on PBS.
Deborah BeardInstructor E-RYT200
Deborah (Deb) originally registered for Yoga classes in 2002, thinking of Yoga as exercise. That quickly changed when she realized in addition to gaining core strength, better balance and flexibility, she was feeling more grounded mentally, leaving behind the judgmental mindset she was raised with. Deb was physically opening her chest for better posture while spiritually opening her heart to mindfully living in the present.
Eventually Deb found Sundance Yoga Studio and fell in love with Valerie's style of teaching. She knew she wanted to follow in all of her beloved teachers' footsteps and took her 200 hour training through Valerie Immore and Kelly Griswold to earn her RYT200 certification in 2010.
Deb began teaching Gentle Yoga at Sundance in 2011. Her teaching style is a relaxed blend of all the continuing education she has taken since that time. Her Essential Somatics 'Pain Relief Through Movement' training with Martha Peterson combined with Freedom Style Yoga with Carie Garrett, Yoga as Therapy with Christy Burnett and Kids Yoga training with Anne Bendixen compliment the heart-centered Anusara Yoga she was originally certified to teach.
Deb's goal is to offer a calming, caring, safe learning experience accessible to all those interested in improving their physical and mental health. While teaching students to recognize the physical symptoms of carrying stress in their bodies, emphasis is on recognizing the power of connecting to the Breath to help release stress and mindfully live in the present.
'Psychic Income' is one of Deb's favorite expressions for the fulfilling, satisfying feeling she has when students tell her they are feeling better after Gentle Yoga.
Sheryl SanchezInstructor E-RYT200, TIYT, KAY (Kidding Around Yoga) Certification
Sheryl found Sundance in 2010 while suffering from extreme anxiety. The minute she stepped into the studio she felt at home. There was something special about the students, teachers and staff. It was like family. As her practice began to evolve she began to see the bigger picture. ' I learned a lot about myself on the mat. I didn't have to be perfect in my practice, therefore I didn't have to be perfect in life. Yoga is a journey of the body, mind and spirit.'
Sheryl wants to bring you closer to your authentic self through her teachings. She received her RYT-200 in 2016 and E-RYT200 in 2018. In 2020 Sheryl became a certified Trauma Informed Yoga Practitioner (TIYT) Her heart lies with those who struggle with anxiety, depression and grief.
Sheryl teaches various yoga classes and specialty classes including Prenatal, Kids Yoga, Gentle Yoga, and Aerial Swing (hammock) Yoga. She is also a strong advocate of the use of pure essential oils. In 2018, she received her certification from the Essential Oil Institute and is an Essential Oil Coach and Wellness Advocate.
Jen DarceyInstructor E-RYT 500
Jennifer has been involved in physical fitness her whole life, but not until she found Sundance, did fitness become most important for her mind and soul. Jennifer started her yogic path in Chicago as a way to find an avenue for stress release and fitness after having a baby in 2002. After moving to Texas and becoming pregnant with her second child she found Sundance in 2006. Jennifer knew Sundance’s focus on a heart led practice was the perfect pairing with her desire to honor her physical practice. Jennifer’s goal as a teacher is pure. She hopes to reach people’s heart. If her students receive even a small portion of the peace and clarity that yoga has brought to her life, she will feel blessed to have served the community. Jennifer traveled to Costa Rica in 2006 to complete her teachers training program and is 200 RYT and is currently 500 RYT. Jennifer has also taken teacher training in Principles of Partner Yoga, Mini Yogis (Yoga for kids), Ariel Swing Yoga and Prenatal yoga.
