Valerie Immore, E-RYT 500, IAYT, is the owner of Sundance Yoga Studios in Pearland and Friendswood, Tx. She is a Certified registered Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) She has been with Sundance and the Anusara community since 2001. Valerie's journey has always been one of health and fitness and she has a strong background in many facets of the health industry beginning as early as 1985. As soon as she found Yoga, it became her heart's ambition to teach it and enhance the lives of others with this practice as much as yoga has blessed her own life. Her passion in yoga is yoga therapy and partner yoga. She has over 1500 hours of yoga and therapy training. Her training has come from several different styles of vinyasa yoga but primarily from Anusara Yoga. Her unique style is a blend of the principles of alignment from Anusara and the dance of body and breath in vinyasa, complimented by teaching from a place of intuition and deep understanding of the biomechanics of the body. Valerie is a teacher trainer at the 200 hr and 500 hr level and has taught in Principle Based Partner Yoga teacher certification courses.
John came to Sundance Yoga in 2005. Having competed in competitive tennis, racquetball, running, cycling, and back-packing, his body was in need of healing. Yoga provided the needed recovery and healing from years of overuse injuries. As an avid cyclist he discovered that yoga improved his balance, breathing and strength on the bicycle. Taking his yoga practice to the next level, with Valerie’s encouragement, he completed the teachers training at Sundance. In the fall of 2008 he began teaching yoga to employees at Alvin Community College. The program became an immediate success and is offered to beginning and intermediate students. John’s philosophy of yoga is to teach not only the universal principles of alignment, but to instill in each student an appreciation of the culture and history of yoga and to practice yoga not only on the mat but in their daily lives. He encourages his students to recognize that their physical yoga practice, when engaging the breath, can lead to self-awareness and change. A sense of humor and a desire to create a peaceful atmosphere guide his instructional method. In January of 2014 John completed over 1000 hours of teaching yoga and through the Yoga Alliance received his 200 hour E-RYT Certification. He is also the Provost and Dean of Instruction at Alvin Community College.
CJ was introduced to Yoga through Public Television in the early 1990’s. She developed a home practice and attended the occasional yoga class at her local gym. Initially, she enjoyed the physical benefits of yoga and saw it as a way to stay physically fit. It didn’t take her long to understand the powerful mind-body connection and how it impacted her health and well-being. CJ began teaching in 2011 after completing a 200 Hr. teacher training at Sundance. She went on to complete 500 Hr. teacher training in 2015. Although teaching yoga has been a natural progression out of her personal practice, CJ sees herself as a student first and foremost. Her intention as a teacher is to hold space for others to experience self- awareness and personal growth. CJ holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and spent many years working in this capacity. She views teaching yoga as yet another way to be in service to others. CJ teaches Gentle Yoga, Yin, Yoga Nidra and Mixed Level classes. She is inspired by her teachers Valerie Immore, Christy Burnette, Ali Valdez, Francis Rhodes and her very first teacher, Lilias Folan on PBS.
Sheryl (E-RYT200 ) found Sundance over 10 years ago while suffering with anxiety. The minute she stepped into the studio she felt at home with family. There was something special about the students, teachers and staff. As her practice began to evolve she began to see the bigger picture. 'I learned a lot about myself on the mat. I didn't have to be perfect in my practice, therefore I didn't have to be perfect in life.' Yoga is a journey of the body, mind and spirit; and, Sheryl wants to bring you closer to your authentic self through her teachings. Her heart lies with those who struggle with anxiety and depression. Sheryl teaches specialty classes including Prenatal, Kids Yoga, Gentle Yoga, and Aerial Swing (hammock) Yoga; as well as Level 2 and Community classes.
Monica discovered yoga as a college student almost 20-years ago. While her professional path provided many opportunities to teach different subjects in various settings, she has continued learning as a student on the mat. When I became a mother of little ones, her teaching became focused at home. To keep involved with the adult world and stay in touch with her inner self, she studied under Valerie Immore. During this time she became a certified yoga instructor. Monica is honored to teach Prenatal and Mommy and Me classes at Sundance.
Deborah’s (Deb’s) yoga journey began about eight years ago when she enrolled in her first yoga class after witnessing the positive changes yoga had made in a close friend’s life. As she learned to open her physical body and strengthen her core, she also began to benefit from the mental and spiritual gifts yoga offers. Through practicing the heart-centered Anusara style of hatha yoga, she became more mindful, balanced and better able to stay in the present moment. She realized she was opening her heart as well as her body
Discovering yoga initially at a gym, Allison was quickly drawn in and sought out a path to further explore yoga’s beauty. Finding Sundance in 2008 was the true start of her journey. Allison completed her teacher training in 2014 (200 RYT) seeking to more fully integrate the physical, emotional and mental aspects of yoga into her life. Her teaching style unites asana and meditative practices with the journeys, on and off the mat, we are all on together.
Classes encourage physical awareness and reflection in a comfortable and light-hearted atmosphere
Jennifer has been involved in physical fitness her whole life, but not until she found Sundance, did fitness become most important for her mind and soul. Jennifer started her yogic path in Chicago as a way to find an avenue for stress release and fitness after having a baby in 2002. After moving to Texas and becoming pregnant with her second child she found Sundance in 2006. Jennifer knew Sundance’s focus on a heart led practice was the perfect pairing with her desire to honor her physical practice. Jennifer’s goal as a teacher is pure. She hopes to reach people’s heart. If her students receive even a small portion of the peace and clarity that yoga has brought to her life, she will feel blessed to have served the community. Jennifer traveled to Costa Rica in 2006 to complete her teachers training program and is 200 RYT and is currently enrolled in Sundance Yoga's 500 RYT program. Jennifer has also taken teacher training in Principles of Partner Yoga, Mini Yogis (Yoga for kids), Ariel Swing Yoga and Prenatal yoga.
