Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa yoga, also referred to as flow yoga, is a practice in which movements and asanas (poses) are synchronized with the breath. At Sundance Yoga Studio in Friendswood, our vinyasa yoga classes consist of upward movements that are performed while inhaling and downward movements that are performed while exhaling. The asanas are linked together so that the class consists of almost continuous, smoothly flowing movement. One of our advanced vinyasa classes is a great way to break a sweat, and the synchronization of breath with movement brings sense of increased focus.

Yin Yoga

Most forms of yoga today are dynamic, active practices designed to work only half of our body, the muscular half, the "yang" tissues. Yin Yoga allows us to work the other half, the deeper "yin" tissues of our ligaments, joints, and deep fascial networks. All of our tissues are important and need to be exercised so that we can achieve optimal health and vitality.

In this class we honor the principles of Yin; come into the pose to an appropriate depth, resolve to remain still and hold the pose for some time. Yin focuses on a release of connective tissues and cultivation of observance, pranayama and meditation as we surrender into longer held postures and open ourselves to the release of deeply held, stagnant energy.

What to expect: longer held postures to move beyond the superficial muscles deep into the connective tissue.

This class welcomes any level student, from beginner to advanced.

Please note: Yin Yoga is *NOT* Restorative Yoga. If the tissues you are targeting are damaged in some way, please give yourself a chance to heal before joining this class.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that provides deep relaxation, calms the nervous system and releases negative thought patterns and emotions. This practice helps us to develop an inner sanctuary of well-being and equanimity that serves as a base from which we are more able to calmly respond to the circumstances of our daily life.

Yummy Yoga

Yummy Yoga/Restorative Yoga is a beginner/mixed level class is for new students or for those experienced students who want a refresher on the basics and a feel good practice. It will include any combination of therapeutic yoga, restorative and flow for the physical and energy bodies.

Gentle Yoga

The Gentle Yoga class is a combination of gentle body movements, breathing, and relaxation techniques that create physical and mental well-being. The tempo of this class is slow and soothing to invite an experience of strength and rejuvenation to each student.

Everyone is invited to join us as this class is for people of all shapes and sizes. It is wonderful for students who want to increase their mobility and balance, especially after an injury or surgery. Gentle Yoga is the perfect class for students with pre-existing health conditions & those who are 65 years or older.

We Have Private Yoga Sessions Available As Well

Today's group yoga classes are a modern invention. In its early days, the practice was passed down from one teacher to one student, and instruction was individualized. Whether you're a novice, advanced practitioner, or a special needs client, private yoga classes at Sundance Yoga Studio can mimic early yoga teaching methods and maximize health benefits.  Sundance yoga also specializes in the needs of physical and emotional rehabilitation through yoga therapy. We can help you achieve your goals while improving flexibility, strength and balance.  You will receive the personal attention you need to get the most out of every asana, or pose.
